Frequently asked

Which IFRS programme should our finance team start with?

For a working grounding across the standards, start with International Financial Reporting Standards, built around the recurring technical issues and judgement calls. Banks whose priority is financial instruments and expected credit loss should choose IFRS 9 Financial Instruments Masterclass; teams preparing the new income statement, the IFRS 18 masterclass for banks and financial institutions. For recent changes only, choose The Standards Update: Recent IFRS, IAS & IPSAS Changes Applied.

What does IFRS and financial reporting training cover, and who is it for?

It covers IFRS 9 and expected credit loss, the IFRS 18 income statement and management-defined performance measures, financial statements, budgeting and the reporting cycle, with related frameworks such as IFRS 17, IPSAS and AAOIFI standards. It is for CFOs, financial controllers, reporting, consolidation and audit teams, and credit risk staff involved in provisioning. Programmes are practitioner-led and delivered in English and French.

When does IFRS 18 take effect, and do you cover it for banks?

IFRS 18, issued by the IASB in April 2024, replaces IAS 1 for annual reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027. It introduces defined categories and required subtotals in the statement of profit or loss and requires disclosure of management-defined performance measures. The IFRS 18 masterclass for banks and financial institutions covers these, and the reading list explains where net interest income sits.
