Hydrogen sulfide is a deadly substance, and knowing its behaviour is a matter of life and death for anyone working where it occurs. This masterclass gives oil and gas workers the working knowledge to stay alive around H2S: its properties, characteristics and toxicity; quantities and exposure limits; sources, byproducts and chemical incompatibilities; and the industries and locations where exposure happens. The cohort works through detection and monitoring devices, controlling site hazards, recognising the signs of exposure, and treating an exposed coworker — all designed to combine with the site’s own hydrogen sulfide contingency plan.
