Islamic Finance: Products, Contracts & Structures

Every Islamic finance product is a classical contract solving a modern problem — understand the contract and the product explains itself.

The programme

Islamic finance is now a multi-trillion-dollar industry, and its practitioners are too often trained on either pure jurisprudence or pure banking — rarely the join. This programme teaches the join: each core contract — murabaha, ijara, musharaka, mudaraba, salam, istisna, wakala — worked from its Sharia basis to its modern product form, with the structuring choices, risks and accounting treatment that follow. AAOIFI standards are used as the working reference throughout. Participants leave able to structure, review and explain the mainstream product set with confidence on both sides of the join.

What you will do

Work each core contract from Sharia basis to modern product form
Structure financings with the risks and ownership realities visible
Apply AAOIFI standards as the working reference for products and accounting
Explain any mainstream product to a client, a banker or a Sharia board

Who attends

Bankers moving into Islamic finance; product, credit and legal teams at Islamic windows and full Islamic banks; regulators and auditors covering Islamic institutions.

Cohorts bring together board members, executives and the rising leaders behind them — kept deliberately small, so every seat is a peer’s.

Frequently asked

Which contracts does the Islamic finance programme cover?

The programme works through each core contract — murabaha, ijara, musharaka, mudaraba, salam, istisna and wakala — from its Sharia basis to its modern product form. Each is treated as a working product, with the structuring choices, risks and AAOIFI accounting treatment that follow, so participants leave able to structure, review and explain the mainstream product set.

Do I need a background in Islamic jurisprudence to attend?

No. The programme is built precisely for the join between jurisprudence and banking that most training misses: bankers moving into Islamic finance learn the contract logic, while product, credit and legal teams at Islamic windows and full Islamic banks deepen the banking side. Regulators and auditors covering Islamic institutions also attend.

Does the course provide Sharia-compliance rulings?

No — this is professional training, not sharia-compliance or legal advice. AAOIFI standards are used as the working reference throughout, and the programme covers documentation and the Sharia approval process in practice, but rulings on specific products remain the province of your institution’s own Sharia board.

Is the programme available in-house, and in which languages?

Yes. BIZENIUS delivers the programme in English and French, and in-house editions can be tailored to your institution’s product set. Sessions run on a rolling calendar with dates confirmed on request; fees and quotations are provided on enquiry.

Who teaches this

Practitioners, not presenters.

Led by practitioners who hold, or have held, the seats this programme prepares you for: group treasurers and heads of asset–liability management, chief risk officers, heads of credit and capital management, and former central-bank supervisors who examined the very frameworks they now teach. Between cohorts the same people advise banks on those frameworks, so what you learn is what is being defended in front of boards and regulators today.

What the bench brings

  • Risk management for Islamic banks
  • Asset–liability management and funds transfer pricing
  • Liquidity ratios and capital planning
  • Financial product development and modelling
  • Commercial and corporate banking process design
  • SME banking: organisation, products and credit

Where they have practised

Current and former practitioners — people who hold the seat today alongside those who have held it.

Sectors: Banking & financial services · Technology & fintech · Insurance

Regions: Africa · the Middle East · Europe · Asia · the Americas

How they teach

  • Live case studies from real institutions
  • Worked exercises on realistic bank data
  • Regulator-style challenge sessions
  • Group problem-solving on realistic institutional cases
  • Knowledge checks and a personal action plan

Cohorts are kept small so every exercise is worked on the participants’ own situations — in person or live virtual.
